Project Overview

Book icon

First Aid awareness through civic innovation

HelpMe is Romania’s first mobile app designed to assist users in real emergency situations, before professional help arrives. Developed in partnership with Academia de Prim Ajutor, the app provides verified guidance and maps of all public AEDs (automated external defibrillators) in Cluj-Napoca.

Its core functionality enables bystanders to respond with confidence to sudden cardiac arrest, choking, anaphylaxis, and severe bleeding, empowering citizens to save lives until emergency responders arrive.

Industry challenges

Lack of structured public access to AED data and limited first-aid training among the general population result in missed life-saving opportunities.

Problem

Target icon

Client's challenge

The client faced several significant challenges in their traditional foundry operations. The primary issues included:

1. Complex and inflexible processes

Traditional foundry processes were rigid and could not easily adapt to different types of materials or production needs.

2. Lack of real-time data

Without real-time data, monitoring and controlling the production process were challenging, leading to inefficiencies and increased risk of errors.

3. Inefficient material tracking

The absence of an effective material tracking system resulted in poor inventory management and potential quality control issues.

4. Integration difficulties

Existing systems did not integrate well with other technologies used in the foundry, causing disruptions in workflow and data management.

5. User adoption

Employees found traditional systems difficult to use, leading to a lack of engagement and suboptimal performance.

Solution

Proposed solution

HelpMe addresses a critical gap in public health: the lack of immediate, accessible, and trustworthy first-aid information when seconds matter. The app provides users with step-by-step guidance for emergencies such as cardiac arrest, choking, anaphylaxis, and life-threatening bleeding, situations where immediate action can save lives before professional help arrives.

The app’s standout feature is its live AED locator, allowing users in Cluj-Napoca to quickly find the nearest defibrillator.

Just as important is the app’s clean, distraction-free UX, designed for clarity under stress. HelpMe transforms complex medical guidance into easily digestible steps that non-medical users can follow with confidence.

By centralizing critical resources, verified AED locations and ERC-aligned first aid protocols, HelpMe empowers ordinary citizens to become first responders, filling a crucial knowledge and action gap in public health infrastructure.
